Bach: Easter cantatas
Sir John Eliot Gardiner is passionate about Bach; he has just completed a book which is a reference. The Bach Pilgrimage of year 2000 saw Gardiner and his Monteverdi Choir travel for a year to the significant sites of Bach’s career, to perform his major works and play them in the rest of the world in the most beautiful venues.
Gardiner has chosen to present two programmes of cantatas in two concerts corresponding to two different themes of liturgy, to give each cycle its specific meaning. The exceptional quality of the choir, unequaled in this repertoire, and Gardiner’s inspiration in the Protestant cantatas he knows so intimately, will give us access to Bach’s spiritual emotion.
