An Imaginary Opera

18 October 2017 – 8pm
Approximate duration:
2h including intermission

Original creation based on arias and unpublished extracts of operas by de Mondonville, Bertin de la Doué, Rameau, Campra, Dauvergne, Colin de Blamont, Francœur, Rebel, Marais, Leclair, Charpentier, Stuck, Destouches, Montéclair, Gervais, Royer, and Lully.

Based on the most beautiful moments of French baroque repertoire through which he has remarkably travelled for 30 years, Hervé Niquet is partnering with the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles to construct his imaginary opera!

You will rediscover the traditional plot of French baroque opera: the tearful lover, a storm, a passage through Hell, gods descending from Heaven… and your favorite parts from Lully’s Armide, Médée by Charpentier, Marin Marais’s Sémélé (the Earthquake), without forgetting Campra’Le Carnaval de Venise by.

Coproduction: Centre de musique baroque de Versailles – Le Concert Spirituel | With the support of the Fondation Orange | Score produced by the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles
