Lalande : Grands Motets
When Louis XIV inaugurated the new chapel of château de Versailles in 1710, Michel-Richard de Lalande became the all-powerful King’s musician, succeeding Lully.
With four offices of Chapel Music Master, he was the great organiser of the Court’s ordinary and extraordinary services. This programme proposes Lalande’s most beautiful grand motets, composed for the religious services in the new chapel: they were designed specifically for the acoustics of this new venue: among the masterpieces of French sacred music they would be performed in Versailles and in Paris, until the end of the 1760s.
